In what moment or time have you known that it was time for you to overcome your fears?
such as asking someone you admire to be your mentor or just asking out to hear some startup advice over coffee
I think to the most of us, fear are seen as obstacles where the presence of it seems like the early trigger of a series of other “negative” emotions such as anxiety, panic, procrastination and many more.
Most of these emotions are seens as a problem by ourselves where we must work hard to overcome or fix it now. However, to me, fear is a neutral and valid feeling, I usually allow myself to feel that I’m having fear and I will take bit of time try to digest why I feel so. Don’t be harsh to yourself as everyone does have fear. In fact, you can still do something good even when you are having fear. So in the scenario when you wish to approach someone who you admire but are too worries that you might get turn down or having some embarrassing moment when you meet up. Then maybe take time to build some courage and allow yourself to act awkwardly during the meet up. (We all wish to give a good first impression and that make us too focus on ourselves and forget that any conversation are both ways. Maybe try to make yourself comfortable is a way for you)
If texting seems a better way to approach than calling. Then just draft a message and write to that person why you text them and try your best to express yourself. Take time to build your courage to send out the message. It’s okay to feel nervous before send. Build some courage then press the call or send button. With that you have live along your fear and still making the first move. I believe overtime you will find a way that suits you the best.
