How do I stop procrastinating?
I’ve been struggling with procrastination lately, and it’s really affecting my productivity and overall well-being. Can you share some effective strategies or tips that have worked for you to overcome procrastination? I’d love to hear your personal insights and experiences on how to tackle this issue, as I’m eager to make a positive change in my life right now.
I am new to this space. Noted that this was posted last year. Hope you have made progress on this challenge.
To be honest, I face the same struggle of procrastination too on some matters.
As a life coach, I have supported many to go behind the veil of the act of procrastination.
It is always some underlying reasons that lead to the behaviour.
Most of the time, we can’t put our fingers onto a single cause. It could be this and it could be that. We get tired of figuring out and eventually “the habit” perpetuates.
This echoed what @Paddy Tan mentioned in his post “…without knowing the source, it may be difficult for you to solve..”
So, First, you need to be motivated enough to search for the reason (the “Why”) and own it.
Once you have done that, you can consider the next step, the “How”.
Read that @Crystal has proposed some practical steps which worth doing. Let me propose just two more suggestions for your considerations.
- Set clear and realistic goals based on your current circumstances, your current capacity, and appetite. Do not start with the desire end point as the immediate goal. It is about making sustainable progress and recognise that you are making progress that will help to sustain the change.
- Eliminate distractions. There are way more distractions in our life now especially those that will draw our attention to seeking pleasure. Identify what they could be, replace it with something that will bring you to your goal, reward yourself when you successfully defeat one distraction.
Start with small steps and count your wins.
Looking forward to hearing your progress.
I learnt something today. Thank you!
